Overview

Kad Träv-mirv was founded durring the early 13th century in winter of the year 1224, by Usloz. The establishment of Kad Träv-mirv was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Kad Träv-mirv's construction back out of the project. Usloz pushed on reguardles, and Kad Träv-mirv was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Kad Träv-mirv was built using the conventions of Gnoll durring the early 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Kad Träv-mirv is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Kad Träv-mirv is buildings folow an organic layout of crampt paverstone streets whihch gives the city a shape simmilar to a tree, if one views its streets from above. The city resides behind a palisade wall complete with battlments, a moat, and timber gatehouses with drawbridges. The city's robustly designed timber walls are visibly old, but also obviously well maintained. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with routine mantance of the city's defences.

A look around Kad Träv-mirv has something terribly wrong with it. It’s impossible to put one’s finger on, but something is horribly wrong. Maybe it’s the way fog blankets the ground, but only in the connors of places. Maybe it’s the vermin scuttling between shadows in the corner of your eyes. Perhaps it’s the overcast sky which seemed to creep out of nowhere, or the distant howling of wolves. Everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or both. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring just long enough for it to be uncomfortable. People seem to be allowed to do as they please with little harmoney to anything. It feels less like a city, and more like a spot people just happened to place their homes. Regardless, you do not feel it would be wise to remain in Kad Träv-mirv long.

Cultural Notes

While Kad Träv-mirv might ostensibly be ruled by some other power, real control lies with the senior members of the local craft and labor guilds. Their decisions have the practical weight of law, and much of their time and effort is spent squeezing out competitors and parceling out economic opportunities in the community. Some guilds might have little or nothing to do with their original trade, and now exist purely as shells for political influence.

Kad Träv-mirv's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its striking sculptural forms and often dazzling ornamental detail that characterizes the buildings general shape. The radiant colors, rich patterns, and symmetrical silhouettes employed by this style were backed up by rich decorative features including gardens, courtyards, extruded arches, domes, pointed domes, vaulted ceilings, elaborate painted and inlaid designs, and decorative sculptures.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Kad Träv-mirv was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Kad Träv-mirv lost 197 people, 361 livestock, and 84 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 104, when members of Kad Träv-mirv's militia enacted an operation to rescue a particular solgiers group from the enemy. The operation was complicated by freezing cold, such that the troops suffered frostbite. The conflict ended with pitched battle between both forces, which ended in a stalemate for Kad Träv-mirv's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Kad Träv-mirv's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
